Nassir Ghaemi MD MPH is an academic psychiatrist specializing in mood illnesses, depression and bipolar illness, and Editor of a monthly newsletter, The Psychiatry Letter. He is Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he directs the Mood Disorders Program. He is a also a Clinical Lecturer at Harvard Medical School, and teaches at the Cambridge Health Alliance. His book, “A First Rate Madness” explores personality disorders and traits of mental illness that influenced some of the world’s greatest leaders.
His presentation will include highlights of how manic traits of manic and depressive behavior during times of crisis bring about creativity and resilience, realism and empathy. Ghaemi will explore how normal mental health involves positive illusion, limits empathy and how leadership is contextual.
