Philip Kotler has been described as the father of modern marketing.  He has published 57 books on marketing and over 150 articles. He has written about how marketing works in the world of consumer and business goods and services, in healthcare, higher education, museums, performing arts, and non-profit organizations.  His textbook, Marketing Management, is in its 15th edition and it updates the impact of digitalization, globalization, innovation and branding in the practice of modern marketing.

Philip received his Master’s Degree in Economics at the University of Chicago under Nobel prize-winning economist, Milton Friedman.  He became a free-market economist.  At M.I.T., he received his doctor’s degree in economics from Paul Samuelson and Robert Solow, both Nobel prize-winning economists. He switched to being a Keynesian economist.

Philip is the S.C. Johnson Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.  At Kellogg, he developed a “broadened view” of marketing, showing that it applies not only to the marketing of goods and services but also to the marketing persons, places, ideas and causes.

Philip has received 22 honorary degrees from abroad and is the only business professor with his face on a postage stamp, in this case an Indonesian postage stamp.

Philip and his wife Nancy traveled to Bali in 2011 to open the world’s first Museum of Marketing in lovely Ubud where the princely family invited him to design the world’s first Museum of Marketing.

His most recent publication is Confronting Capitalism.
